Purchasing a Home in Portugal
Portugal is one of the most attractive countries for real estate investments.
Make sure you know all the steps to purchase your dream home in Portugal.

1. Selection: Finding the right properties with your consultant/broker according to your investment criteria.2. Coming to Portugal or Staying Abroad: Visiting the properties (in person or virtually) and meetings legal, tax, and financial representatives.3. Reservation and Sale Agreement: After choosing the property, negotiation process before the reservation with your intention to complete the purchase. The sale agreement where it is clearly identified the following: price of the unit and payment terms, who is the buyer and the vendor, dates of the contract and the public deed in the presence of the notary.4. Properties Under Construction: Will be a phased payment based on the construction status from breaking ground to completion. A deposit in the promissory contract of sale and purchase around 20%, additional 20% during construction period and final payment of 60% after notarization in the deed.5. Transaction Charges: Typical charges associated with the purchase of a property are the following:
- Transfer tax (between 1% to 7.5% ) - paid on the deed
- Stamp duty 0.8% - paid on the deed
- Notary, court and land registry fees approximately (from approx. €1.000) - paid on the deed
